Social Consciousness Meets Fashion Consciousness

Most of the time, fashion is a strange little pursuit. People who are in a society will try to outdo one another while, at the same time, working to impress themselves in one of the most public displays an individual person can put on. So at the same time, a person is working on making themselves look better in a narcissistic sense, but also working to look good in the eyes of others. It’s really no wonder most of the people who work the hardest to be extremely fashionable so rarely have the time to think about anything else.

However, there are some rare occasions in which the admittedly self serving, rather egocentric pursuit of looking and feeling your best can actually be justified as more than simply doing what you want to do with your life and your money. For instance, there are some products which allow you to be generous to those who are less fortunate than yourself, while you continue to work on looking and feeling absolutely great. While such a thing is in the definite minority in the fashion world, there are some notable entries which allow a person to do precisely that. For instance, there is a brand known as Toms shoes.

This little brand was begun by Blake Mycoskie, who was fresh out of the Amazing Race at the time. He wanted to start a reality show, and took a journey with that intent in mind. However, upon getting to a small village in Argentina, he realized that he could help the privileged of the world to look and feel great, while he also helped out the poorest of the poor through a charitable contribution made every time someone bought a pair of the shoes he had redesigned. Local workers had been wearing a particular style forever, but with modifications it became truly special.
